The week of peace was launched in Haringey in September 2001 as a response to local community safety concerns. Thousands of local residents welcomed this initiative participating in a peace walk, peace concert, prayer walks around crime hotspots and lots of other activities in the borough. Celebrated in Haringey again in 2002 and 2003, the events attracted thousands of local people from diverse backgrounds to a range of activities such as school peace assemblies, sports events, faith and community based action.

Giving Back
The theme for 2010 week of peace is "giving back".
Every one has something unique they can do to make a positive change in their community, and so we invite people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds to be part of the 2010 legacy theme “Giving Back”. In 2009 over 450 events took place in all 33 London Boroughs engaging individuals, the community/voluntary sector, faith groups, statutory agencies and businesses.
